StartUp Week was a success!

StartUp Week was StartUp School’s first actual action in the field of education export. The event was aimed to educational organisations all over the World and we had there participants from South-Africa, Germany and Bolivia. Event included three days seminar in Haaga-Helia and two days in Slush.

StartUp Week started on Monday November 27th with the Opening seminar in Auditorio. Keynote speakers were Peter Vesterbacka and Pasi Sahlberg, who really got us to understand how amazing finnish education is and how much there is interest on that abroad. After the Opening Event, we continued to Press event where Haaga-Helia ammattikorkeakoulu in Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa signed the Memorandum of Understanding, which included a plan of long and productive future collaboration between our universities.

After Mondays program, which related on finnish education in general, our participants got insights on Haaga-Helia and StartUp School way of teaching and learning. On Tuesday we also took our participants to the speaker event “The Times I Royally Screwed Up” organized by students. The most interesting part for our guest was probably the afternoon when our teachers explained our offering more detailed.

On Wednesday the program included speeches about evaluation of entrepreneurial students and some hints on what kind of help students with startups might need. On the afternoon our participants visited Porvoo campus. The rest of the week we spent at Slush. Our guest were really impressed about the event and actually already planned how could they get Slush to their own country as well. And during Thursday EduExcellence Ltd, which is education export organisation of Haaga-Helia, Laurea and Metropolia, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Universidad de la Cordillera. They also planned to have their own StarUp School in Bolivia.

In conclusion, the StartUp Week was a success and it certainly will be done again next year.
